China’s zero-tolerance policy for dealing with Covid-19 had led to disruption of supply-chains, cruel treatment of those suffering from Covid-19 in China due to heavy-handed implementation of the zero-tolerance policies by the administration and the consequent revolt by the people in many cities of China.

Now after the protests by people started spreading fast, Xi Jinping has relaxed the rules and defined ten new measures, which quarantine only those, who have been found to be suffering from Covid-19, thus exempting those, who could presumably come in touch with them. The measures also relax the restrictions on the quarantined homes. One of the requirements on the local governments to vaccinate the elderly fast. The measures ask for precise and targeted controls, thus avoiding unnecessary large-scale distress.

Along with tough measures like arrests of the leaders of the protest movements, the relaxation of the Rules for implementation of the zero-tolerance policy is expected to damp down the revolt and bring normalcy back to the cities in China.
