Saturday, Dec 10, 2022

As a part of the coruption investigation, the Belgian Public Prosecutor’s office searched 16 residences and confiscated computers and 600,000 Euros from the staff of a number of MEPs. The Vice-President of the European Parliament, Eva Kalli, an MEP from Greece, has made positive statements in the European Parliament about Qatar. Kalli was expelled from her party, the Panhellenic Socialist Movement.

The Prosecutor has not revealed many names since the investigations are incomplete.

Qatar has been criticized during the last few days for its human rights record in the world -wide media. It has a very poor record of treating the migrant workers, who, during the last 12 years built eight stadia and other infrastructure for the World Cup 2022.

The MEPs and their staff are being bribed to ensure that the European Parliament does not pass an adverse resolution, protesting against the atrocious way, in which the migrant labor had been treated by Qatar.

We had reported on these issues in our two Reports on the World Cup.  On November 21 and November 25.

After the World Cup games started and the media of the whole of the world came to Qatar, these reports started getting published widely, Qatar government asked the US Secretary of State to help mitigate the adverse publicity by signing a well-publicized press conference, where US and Qatar signed a letter of Agreement for helping Qatar implement fair labor practices.

In our Report on “New Deal for Migrant Labourers” dated November 25, 2022 at  https://diginews360.com/fair-practices-in-qatar/ , we had expressed the hope that “ the rich government of Qatar starts treating the poor migrant laborers in a humanitarian way.”
