December 4, 2022: Macron for Offering Security Guarantees to Russia

December 1, 2022: OSCE Ministerial Council Meeting

December 4, 2022: French President Emmanuel Macron has recommended that some type of “security guarantee” be given to Russia so that peace talks might start. This TV Interview was given immediately after Macron returned from his State Visit, on 1st of December 2022, to USA. At the White House, Macron discussed with Biden the creation of “the security architecture in which the world would want to live tomorrow.

Probably Macron was referring to offering Russia an assurance of not admitting Ukraine, Finland and Sweden to NATO.

He said that the issue of borders of Ukraine will have to be decided by the Ukrainians.

On Thursday, 1st December 2022, President Joe Biden said, as he stood alongside President Macron at a joint news conference that he was open to talking with Russian President Vladimir Putin about bringing an end to the war in Ukraine but only if the Russian leader is serious about peace negotiations.

President Macron, in his opening remarks at the meeting with President Biden, said,” Our democracies on both sides of the ocean are being shaken by the same doubts as to our ability to be sufficiently strong and effective when it comes to the challenges we share — those of the climate, geopolitics, and technology.  They’re in doubt in the face of relativism, hate speech, false information, and today’s fears.” President Macron seemed to be asking for taking an initiative for ending the Ukraine war at the earliest.

On December 2, USA’s Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Stockholm on the margins of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Ministerial council. Putin took note of Biden’s statement and of the meeting between the two Foreign Ministers. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters in response to comments made Thursday by President Biden,“ The president of the Russian Federation [Vladimir Putin] has always been, is and remains open to negotiations in order to ensure our interests.”

President Putin said,” Russia would not engage in negotiations if the West did not recognize the territory Russia had annexed from Ukraine earlier this year.”

Let us hope, the war will be stopped and negotiations will begin.
