Ending Chinese Efforts to Influence Canadian Elections

Nov 10, 2022: A more effective CSIS for ending foreign interference

We call upon the Prime Minister to legislate for a Foreign Agents Registry on the lines of the US and Australian legislations. We also ask the Government to strengthen Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) so that it can stop effectively foreign interference in Canada’s internal affairs.

November 10, 2022: John Ivison wrote in the National Post about allegations that China has opened its Police Stations I Canada to ensure that it can keep the diaspora under its control. This is impinging on the sovereignty of Canada and it was expected that CSIS would be able to investigate the issue and the Government would take action. But the lackaidaiscal attitude continues to prevail on this important issue also. National Post has reported as follows:

Former Conservative leader Erin O’Toole says that China did not want Conservatives to come to power in Canada. So in 2021, he estimates that Conservatives lost 9 to 10 seats in BC and Ontario due to Chinese interference. He said that thousands of Conservative voters did not want to appear on voters’ lists in ridings that backed the Conservatives.

Does it mean that tentacles of CCP are so deep that the Canadian voters are deeply afraid of going to the polling booths in Canada? If voters are mortally afraid of some external power, how can democracy work in Canada?

Earlier in April 2021, Kenny Chu proposed a private members bill for preparing a foreign influence registry to force those, working for regimes like Russia, China and Iran to register themselves. But the bill was not passed. Kenny Chu felt that the elements, loyal to CCP, tried to damage the reputation of Kenny Chu.

We call upon the Government to legislate for a Foreign Agents Registry on the lines of the US and Australian legislations. We also ask the Government to strengthen Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) so that it can stop effectively foreign interference in Canada’s internal affairs.
